How can we give young people the spaces they need?
Client: Big Lottery Fund (BIG)
Project: somewhereto_
Inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, somewhereto_ is a UK wide service that helps young people access space.
Since June 2010, we’ve unlocked over 380,000 sq ft of space which was previously empty or underused for young people to make their ideas, activities and enterprises happen. We’ve negotiated over 4,000 direct matches between spaces and young people in need of space, and engaged with thousands and reached millions through high-profile activity around space.
Whether it’s finding a young person somewhereto_ rehearse, network, gain experience, create new things, exhibit their artwork or put on an event, we’re using physical and digital spaces to inspire people to think differently about how we can broker a better use of space across sectors for mutual benefit.
somewhereto_ is funded by a £7m injection from the Big Lottery Fund (BIG), granted in December 2012 to support its UK wide expansion over the following four years. Previously, somewhereto_was funded by Legacy Trust UK (LTUK) as an official part of the cultural celebrations of London 2012.
We’ve created an economy that leaves empty space hollow for months and disregards young people as a drain on society. somewhereto_ provides the opportunity to utilise the two most under used and over looked natural resources we have, young people and space. We create an equation that could really change our environment. Culturally, socially, and economically.
